By demonstrating compliance with
The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality
and safety, Spine & Orthopaedic Medical Center has earned The
Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™. An independent,
not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the predominant
standards setting and accrediting body in health care. Since 1975,
the Joint Commission has developed state-of-the-art standards for
outpatient office-based surgery organizations.

The Spine and Orthopaedic Medical Center initially received
Office-Based Surgery accreditation from The Joint Commission in
December 2002, and has been recertified every three years through an
unannounced survey process. The facility is evaluated against a set
national standards by a Joint Commission surveyor experienced in the
delivery of Office-Based Surgery services. Achieving accreditation
demonstrates The Spine and Orthopaedic Medical Center's commitment
to providing high quality, safe care to our patients.
Experts predict that the number of surgical procedures performed in
physician offices and ambulatory surgery centers will surpass those
performed in hospitals. As the nation's leading evaluator of patient
safety and health care quality in organizations, The Joint
Commission has more than 50 years experience in promoting patient
safety and high quality care for individuals seeking care in health
care organizations. The Joint Commission introduced office-based
surgery standards in 2001 to provide oversight for small practices
performing invasive procedures. For additional information about
The Joint Commission, please call 630-792-3007.
