By demonstrating compliance with
The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality
and safety, The Spine & Orthopaedic Medical Center has earned The
Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™. An independent,
not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the predominant
standards setting and accrediting body in health care. Since 1975,
the Joint Commission has developed state-of-the-art standards for
outpatient office-based surgery organizations.

On December 14, 2002, The Spine
and Orthopaedic Medical Center initially received Office-Based
Surgery accreditation from The Joint Commission, and was recertified
on December 13, 2005. In becoming accredited, The Spine and
Orthopaedic Medical Center was evaluated against a set of nearly 150
national standards by a Joint Commission surveyor experienced in the
delivery of Office-Based Surgery services. Achieving accreditation
demonstrates The Spine and Orthopaedic Medical Center's commitment
to providing high quality and safe care to its patients.
We are pleased to announce that the Spine and Orthopaedic Medical
Center voluntarily underwent a thorough, unannounced on-site
evaluation and re-accreditation survey against standards that
promote quality care and patient safety on Friday October 31, 2008,
in order to remain compliant with Joint Commission standards. Dr.
Ronald A. Johanson of The Joint Commission observed our facility
during normal business hours.
Experts predict that the number of surgical procedures performed in
physician offices and ambulatory surgery centers will surpass those
performed in hospitals. As the nation's leading evaluator of patient
safety and health care quality in organizations, The Joint
Commission has more than 50 years experience in promoting patient
safety and high quality care for individuals seeking care in health
care organizations. The Joint Commission introduced office-based
surgery standards in 2001 to provide oversight for small practices
performing invasive procedures. For additional information about "Jayco,"
